Cartoonists Day

Cartoonists Day is an American holiday dedicated to cartoonists and all the artists who make the effort to create cartoons, comics. It’s a very difficult creative job. It is necessary to make the characters as well-drawn as possible, able to convey their emotions, feelings and other things. It is celebrated annually on May 5.

History

The history of cartoonists’ development goes back to 1943, when a group consisting of G. Edson, B. Dunn, D. Russell and others began creating cartoon shows to entertain WWII soldiers during hospital treatment and rehabilitation after wounds. The popularity of such events grew, and in 1946 it was decided to create the N.C.S. organization, which would allow cartoonists of varying skill levels to develop in this field.

Cartoonists Day itself was created much later – in 1999. The main goals of the holiday are to encourage more talented people to create newspaper sketches, cartoons, comic strips, and to thank all cartoonists for their contribution to the formation of cultural heritage.
