Loomis Day

Loomis Day is an American holiday dedicated to M. Loomis. This man revolutionized telegraph communication technology with his new developments. It is celebrated annually on May 30.

History

Mahlon Loomis is a well-known personality in the field of telegraphic communication. However, we do not know when Loomis Day first began to be celebrated.

The future inventor was born in New York City. He later moved to Ohio, where he got a job as a dentist. He also devoted plenty of time to science. In the 1850s, it was discovered that our planet was entangled in an electric field, which could be used to generate electricity and also be used to transmit data wirelessly.

In the fall of 1866 Loomis conducted a large-scale experiment in the mountains of Virginia. He launched two separate kites into the sky, which were connected with copper wire to a galvanometer, a device capable of measuring the electric current flowing through it. As a result, Loomis was able to control one kite through the other. Thus the original form of radio signals was developed. In 1872 he patented his invention. It contributed significantly to the development of science in this direction. Thanks in large part to Loomis, today we are free to use such convenient technologies as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Interesting facts

  • In addition to his work with telegraphic communication, Mahlon is believed to have been the creator of porcelain dentures in 1857.
  • Initially, wireless communication was optical. It was carried out with the help of special mirrors, ensuring the transmission of glare over a long distance.
