History
The history of National Peace Rose Day is devoid of details. This rose variety was bred by F. Mayland by crossing a tea rose with another seedling. Before the Germans came to France during WWII, Meiland sent cuttings of the new rose to his acquaintances from different countries to prevent its loss. The names of the flower varied, but in the United States in 1945, R. Pyle named it “Peace Rose”. This name was given to the flower in honor of the approaching victory over Nazism and the coming of the long-awaited peace. Thus, the hybrid rose became not only a beautiful flower, but also a symbol of peace.
