National Sundae Day

National Sundae Day is celebrated on November 11th every year in the United States, and it is dedicated to the wonderful dessert that no American can refuse! The main ingredient in a sundae is ice cream balls with various toppings of chocolate, jelly, cream, fruit, and sweets added to them. It is difficult to list all the tastes, so we advise you to try the delicacy right now if you haven’t already!

History

It is still unknown who created the sundae, as there are many applicants for this role but no one has been able to prove their involvement by 100%. The most commonly accepted versions are as follows:

  • In 1881, the dessert appeared in Wisconsin when two friends (or one of them) decided to add chocolate sauce to ice cream and the result was met with great pleasure. The dish was initially only served on Sundays.
  • In 1890, the owner of an establishment in Illinois received an order from guests for “something unusual” and created the likeness of a sundae, which was well received by the guests.
  • In 1892, on April 3rd in Ithaca, co-owners of a café covered a treat with cherry syrup and candied fruits, and called the dish “Cherry Sunday”.

Interesting facts

The most popular sundae flavors are:

  • Hot toffee and chocolate sauce.
  • Banana split with strawberry syrup and crushed peanuts.
  • Chocolate and marshmallows.
  • Brown sugar, oats, raisins, nuts, and liquor.
  • Chocolate hazelnut cake, whipped cream, and cherries.
