National Teddy Bear Day

National Teddy Bear Day is dedicated to the most popular and beloved toy. On September 9, everyone can say thanks to the bear for being there in difficult moments, sharing joy and pain, comforting them, and being a true friend.

History

The history of the toy is very interesting. It was invented and made by Rose and Morris Michtom for President Theodore Roosevelt. The president went on a bear hunt, but failed to shoot the predator. Then his assistants tied the beast to a tree, but Roosevelt refused to shoot, saying it was unsportsmanlike. Soon, the news of the event spread throughout America. After Rose and Morris got permission to name the Teddy bear, they began mass production.

Interesting Facts

  • Every year in America, millions of teddy bears are bought and given as gifts; for many, they become a symbol of a true friend.
  • The smallest replica of a teddy bear was embroidered by South African artist Cheryl Moss, and is only 0,29 inches.
