Pilates Day

Pilates Day is a worldwide holiday dedicated to Pilates. It is a peculiar complex of multifunctional exercises. It is scientifically proven that proper Pilates exercises can significantly improve the condition of your body, gain flexibility and begin to feel your body like never before. The holiday is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in May.

History

The history of Pilates Day is unknown, but we know very well how Pilates itself came to be. Joseph Pilates is credited with its invention. He and his wife created a set of exercises that they practiced on students. Its key feature was the active involvement of the brain while performing the prescribed exercises. Much attention was paid to the so-called neuromuscular connection – in any movement you have to include the particular muscle you need and feel what your body is experiencing at that moment.

A full-fledged studio for classes was opened in 1960 in New York City. Thanks to M. Graham and D. Balanchine, who are famous dancers, Pilates became very popular. They recommended it to their students to improve their flexibility, endurance, balance and also as a method of rehabilitation.
