Talk Like Shakespeare Day

Talk Like Shakespeare Day is an annual American holiday celebrating the world’s most famous playwright. Try to feel like characters from the works of William Shakespeare: add sublime or rare words from his plays to your speech, for example. It is celebrated on April 23.

History

The history of Talk Like Shakespeare Day begins in 2009, when it was created by the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. The theater itself has staged and performed numerous plays and performances based on the works of the world playwright. The festival invites you to experience Shakespeare in the role of Shakespeare and experience the depth of his work.

The date of the writer’s birth – April 23, 1564 – was chosen as the day of celebration. The place of birth is the English town of Stratford-Avon. At the age of 18, Shakespeare married and had three children in his family. He began writing in the late 1980s of the 16th century.

Shakespeare’s dramaturgical, comic and tragic works were of the highest level. He also paid great attention to the connection with certain historical events. Some of his best works are: “Romeo and Juliet,” “Hamlet,” “King Lear” and many others.

Interesting facts

  • Despite the tepid critical acclaim immediately following the release of Shakespeare’s works, it wasn’t until centuries later that they became truly popular.
  • Researchers of Shakespeare’s works claim that he was well versed in botany. In all of his works he managed to find the names of 63 plant species.
  • All images of the playwright are based on a portrait that was painted by the artist six years before Shakespeare’s death. Unfortunately, the percentage of coincidence with the real appearance of the writer can no longer be established. This is the only evidence that allows us to determine approximately what William looked like.
